Chef Ian Just

Ian found his love for cooking in France where he would study culinary arts at École Supérieure de Cuisine Française in the early 90s, where he would feed dignitaries at the Chamber of Commerce.

While in France, he would indulge in the culture by absorbing its eclectic language and divine cuisine. He fine-tuned his culinary talents under many great Chefs including Chef Fray and Chef Comby. He worked at both of these two great Chefs restaurants and learned the intricacies of French cuisine. Among many great restaurants he last worked at Les Zygomates in Paris as an Executive Sous Chef under Patrick Fray.

Ian eventually came back to the United States to put his stamp in Boston. In December 1994, he opened Les Zygomates inside Boston’s Leather District. As the Chef/Owner, he cooked prominent French Country cuisine that was accompanied by an extensive wine list. Les Zygomates exquisite wine tastings and nightly live jazz took the city by storm and was critically acclaimed.

In November 2004, Ian opened Sorriso Trattoria, a rustic Italian restaurant. Sorriso did not disappoint, with its wood fire grill and floor to ceiling murals, Sorriso would bring a chic ambiance and rustic Italian cuisine together.

Most recently in June 2013, Ian opened Society on High, a modern New American restaurant. He has now taken his French and Italian panache and fused them into a truly contemporary American restaurant with flair. Inside the Financial district, Society on High is completely exposed by its intriguing floor to ceiling windows. Inside you are immediately drawn to its sleek marble bar and its cozy banquettes. Society’s new outside patio has drawn a lot of fanfare and with the new outside bar being built, it will definitely draw crowds.

After 19 years, in January 2014, Ian decided to sell both Les Zygomates and Sorriso and now can focus on his new venture at Society on High.
